How to care for your flowers

A little care helps you enjoy the flowers for longer. Start with the instructions supplied with your design, then use these simple habits to keep it looking its best.

Hand-tied bouquets

  1. Choose a clean vase large enough to hold the stems comfortably.
  2. Remove the transport wrapping and any water packaging carefully, keeping water away from surfaces that could be damaged.
  3. Trim the stem ends with clean, sharp tools and remove leaves that would sit below the water.
  4. Fill the vase with fresh water and add supplied flower food according to its packet instructions.
  5. Check the water daily. Refresh the water, clean the vase and recut stems every few days.

Find a comfortable place

A cool spot away from direct sunlight, radiators and ripening fruit helps flowers last. Avoid squeezing the bouquet into a narrow container. Different stems open at different speeds, so your arrangement will change as you enjoy it.

Baskets, hat boxes and other arrangements

Check how your particular design holds its water before adding any. If it uses floral foam, keep the foam gently moist by adding a little water carefully, without flooding the container. If it uses a water-filled vessel, follow the bouquet water-care guidance where practical. Keep decorative containers on a protective surface.

Do not dismantle a design to find its water source. If you are unsure, contact us and we can explain how to care for that arrangement.

A little attention each day

Remove faded flowers or leaves carefully as the design ages. Keep water topped up and move the flowers if the room becomes warm. Fresh flowers are natural materials, and their vase life varies with the variety, the environment and the care they receive.
